save the dates and official wedding invites, when do i send them?

October 18, 2022 Christine S. Chang

What's the difference between a' Save The Date' (STD) and a wedding invites? Do we need both? When should we send them out? These are some common questions that many couples have.

Save the Dates (or STDs) are a way of announcing your wedding day earlier to give people a heads up about the big day. These are generally sent out as soon as a venue is booked and date the wedding day is confirmed. They should be sent out no later than 6 months before the actual wedding date. Sending out STDs early allow guests to have plenty of time to make arrangements for your wedding day including accomodations if needed.

The key differene between STDs and invitations is that you have to reply to an invitation. Invitations are usually sent out with a reply card so that your guest can RVSP if they will be attending and finalize any other details such meal choice (if it applies to your wedding).

For invitations, we want to work backwards from the wedding date. Final RSVP’s should be collected at least 1 month prior to the event date. So to give your guest plenty of time to respond, we suggest sending out the inviations a month to a month and a half prior to the RSVP date on the invitations.

Working with a wedding planner can help with the details of putting together the STDs and invites as well. For Kelianne & Chase, we worked with @paperandtype to transform the mockups into these beautiful wedding stationary. Check out the reels below!

Micah's Traditional Korean First Birthday

October 10, 2022 Christine S. Chang

Hopefully by now, you know what a dohl is. If not thats ok! A dohl is a Korean tradional celebration of a baby’s 1st birthday and a very important milestone in Korean culture for the baby and parents. The celebration consists of sharing good food and wishing the baby a long and prosperous life with close friends and family.

THE BABY:

MICAH

THE VENUE:

MGRILL, KOREATOWN

For Micah’s dohl, his parents decided on to go for an overall more traditonal.

From the traditonal hanboks for both Micah and his parents to the head table, background asthetics, we created a look that follows more of the traditional Korean roots using silver and wood themes. The overall design was based on elements of Micah’s hanbok, which was also worn by his older brother for his dohl as well!

And for a tradtional dohl, of course we need to have a doljabi, which is a fortune telling custom. Doljabi is done by placing our birthday boy Micah in front of various object and is encouraged to pick up a single item. By tradition, its believed that whatever he chooses will foretell the baby’s future. Each item represents a different future!

Happy 1st birthday Micah!

Engagement Season Is Coming!

October 4, 2022 Christine S. Chang

The last quarter of the year is filled with several holidays and events and is also the most popular engagement season. As a wedding planner/coordinator, we dont just take care of the big day but we also help with planning the big question as well!

THE COUPLE:

SOPHIA + CALVIN

THE LOCATION:

CATALINA ISLAND

Last year we had helped plan a surpise engagement on Catalina Island.

The crazy part about planning a suprise proposal on an island, is that there were no vendors available on the island. We had to bring a florist and all the flowers from LA on a ferry to the island the night before and soak them in the hotel bathtub to keep them fresh for the big event.

For this particular proposal, our team had everything set up on the balcony of the couples hotel suite, while the couple went out for lunch.

Popping the question is already so nervewrecking for most and hiring a planner is a great way to ensure everything is in place and perfect for when they say 'yes!’. Even if its not a surprise, a wedding planner can help come up with and execute ideas that match your needs.

A sparkling K-drama inspired ceremony bathed in golden hour light gave way to a Shanghai Nights reception straight out of Crazy Rich Asians. Crystal chandeliers shimmered above lush blooms, a Chinese apothecary escort wall honored tradition, and lion dancers welcomed guests into a haze-filled celebration of culture and class. From a custom dragon lantern shipped from China to a bespoke Hong Kong–inspired bar and Double Happiness wedding cake, every detail was an immersive tribute to heritage — perfectly timed for Lunar New Year.
