Micah's Traditional Korean First Birthday

October 10, 2022 Christine S. Chang

Hopefully by now, you know what a dohl is. If not thats ok! A dohl is a Korean tradional celebration of a baby’s 1st birthday and a very important milestone in Korean culture for the baby and parents. The celebration consists of sharing good food and wishing the baby a long and prosperous life with close friends and family.

THE BABY:

MICAH

THE VENUE:

MGRILL, KOREATOWN

For Micah’s dohl, his parents decided on to go for an overall more traditonal.

From the traditonal hanboks for both Micah and his parents to the head table, background asthetics, we created a look that follows more of the traditional Korean roots using silver and wood themes. The overall design was based on elements of Micah’s hanbok, which was also worn by his older brother for his dohl as well!

And for a tradtional dohl, of course we need to have a doljabi, which is a fortune telling custom. Doljabi is done by placing our birthday boy Micah in front of various object and is encouraged to pick up a single item. By tradition, its believed that whatever he chooses will foretell the baby’s future. Each item represents a different future!

Happy 1st birthday Micah!

A Luxe K-Drama Wedding Ceremony & C-Drama “Shanghai Nights” Lunar New Year Reception
about a month ago

A sparkling K-drama inspired ceremony bathed in golden hour light gave way to a Shanghai Nights reception straight out of Crazy Rich Asians. Crystal chandeliers shimmered above lush blooms, a Chinese apothecary escort wall honored tradition, and lion dancers welcomed guests into a haze-filled celebration of culture and class. From a custom dragon lantern shipped from China to a bespoke Hong Kong–inspired bar and Double Happiness wedding cake, every detail was an immersive tribute to heritage — perfectly timed for Lunar New Year.
