Minimal & Modern Classic Wedding in Downtown Los Angeles

May 16, 2022 Christine S. Chang

This past wedding holds a special place in my heart since not only was I the head planner for the minimal & modern classic wedding held in Downtown Los Angeles, but I was also a guest. After years of flying solo as an independent woman, one of my closest friends finally got hitched. She met her husband and the rest is history. I guess there really is a match for everyone. And I guess my friends really do like abusing their relationships with me because they all seem to message me last minute. The planning spanned around 3 months from start to finish since the wedding had to accommodate the groom’s family returning to Brazil. Boy, am I glad this one came out quite nicely (and is finally over).

THE COUPLE:

Yoomee + Alex

The theme focused on natural greenery with minimal florals to emanate a simple and clean look with the main colors being black and white. It reminded me a lot of my friend’s no-frills personality.

They also wanted to infuse a part of their culture by incorporating Paebaek within their celebration. Paebaek is a traditional Korean wedding ceremony featuring a decorative background panel, colorful silk table, and bamboo mat set-up along with the ceremonial attire. I hand-painted the backdrop and designed this Paebaek setup from scratch.

Korean Birthday Dohl in Culver City: Leo’s Jungle

May 9, 2022 Christine S. Chang

Leo’s Korean Birthday Dohl held in Culver City was definitely one for the books. This event held a special place in everyone’s hearts because it also acted as a pseudo-wedding for Leo’s parents. Leo’s parents got married during the pandemic and weren’t able to have their own wedding before having Leo. Leo’s birthday became a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not only Leo, but also to express gratitude to friends & family members for all the support their marriage had received despite not being able to hold a ceremony.

What is a DOHL?

Old Korean tradition celebrates the birthday of a one year old baby. The big milestone is celebrated with a huge party called the doljanchi. In the past, many children died before their first birthday, so it was an important event to the parents.

THE BABY:

Leo

LOCATION:

SmogShoppe, Culver City

From the backdrop to the floral installations to the desserts, a color palette of green and touches of gold was carried throughout.

We can't get enough of the personal details! The design for Leo’s Dohl started with his love of animals! Christine Chang drew and cut out all of the animal figures on the backdrop, party favor masks, seat tags. It really felt like a Sunday brunch at the jungle thanks to her tireless, artistic fingers.

Leo’s mom also got custom-made soaps of Leo’s face to give out. Too cute to use. Almost.

Leo picked a microphone during the Dohljabi—a Korean custom where the child selects an object that will represent the child's future. We can’t wait to see the amazing person Leo becomes whether or not the prediction comes true!

May 2, 2022 Christine S. Chang

So honored to have our full-service specialty focused on bringing Asian-American flair and tradition into Western wedding ceremonies featured on Pasadena Weekly’s headline news last week!

The article highlighted Paebaek Ceremony, a traditional tea ceremony held during the cocktail hour, and the Asian-American bride photoshoot we held in honor of Lunar New Year.

Founder and CEO Christine Chang also opens up about how the pandemic affected the wedding industry.

“I was open to those who needed advice and had conversations with a lot of them who didn’t know where to start or restart their planning. I was taking any phone call to try to help as many people as I could. I’m still very open to it.”
