Perks of a Private Backyard Wedding

There really is no place like home and saying your vows in a place that means a lot to you is the main perk of a private backyard wedding. Here's everything you need to know about planning a wedding at your home or a loved one’s—as was the case with this fall-inspired wedding.

THE COUPLE:

Joyce + Kevin

THE WEDDING:

Corona, CA

While the venue was taken care of thanks to Joyce’s parents who offered their lovely residence in sunny Southern California, most homes aren't quite prepared for 100 wedding guests, 40 cars and 15 tables needed for a full-on backyard wedding. Hiring a wedding planner in order to have an expert on call is imperative to prepping for a backyard wedding. The city permits, outdoor maintenance, vendor rentals, catering, and clean-up are just the beginning. But with the extra responsibilities come the extra perks such as having full autonomy over what happens at your wedding.

Playing with the floor space and unique characteristics of each home requires a lot of planning. Joyce’s vision of a gorgeous fall wedding came to life with a fall color palette of mustard yellow and blush pink. The beautiful pampas grass floral decor and lighting set-up utterly transformed the backyard.

Despite the breathtaking visuals, this wedding was reminiscent of a backyard boogie more than anything due to the high-energy and freedom of being at home. Guests were able to go all out and literally danced until the DJ pulled the cord and went home. Another fun aspect was having guests be their own bartenders and make their favorite drinks without any limitations.

Luckily for us, Joyce’s dad is a very handy man and helped with unexpected emergencies on the day of the event, such as the wedding arch that kept falling down due to the gusty winds. We were able to plan and execute an efficient backyard wedding due to the help of everyone involved due to the limited staff on hand.

Planning Tips for the Busiest Wedding Year of the Century: 2022

Here are our wedding planning tips for the busiest year of the century. With each new year, there’s a new challenge. A wedding pandemic and now, a wedding boom. And we have learned so much about working around uncertainty this past year. Hopefully, putting that knowledge into practice with these tips will help you plan your wedding in 2022!

  1. Find your wedding planner before anything else.

You’re already late if you want to plan your wedding for the upcoming year, which is expected to be the most jam-packed season for wedding vendors and venues since 1984. There are only so many weekends and so many vendors. With limited resources available, wedding planners are going to be your best advocate to navigating the even more difficult vetting process with their priceless insider database.

  2. Be flexible with dates.

Most vendors and venues are already fully booked so desperate times call for slightly desperate measures. Hosting a wedding on a weekday is not the end of the world, nor will your guests despise you for making them come celebrate on a Tuesday or Thursday. Hey, you may even find out who your true pals are. If there’s a will, there’s a way.

  3. Don’t have a set vision.

The pandemic taught us time and time again that sometimes things are simply out of our control. Being open to other possibilities will ease the stress of planning a wedding by at least 99.9999%. Keep in mind that the main point of having a wedding is to gather loved ones for your special moment.

Don’t let a few curveballs ruin your mood or the whole planning process which can actually be surprisingly pleasant with the help of some professional guidance.

Just Got Engaged, What’s Next?

If you just got engaged, you might be thinking, “What’s next?” Let me ask you a question. Do you want to enjoy every second of your wedding focusing on your loved ones rather than stressing over the details? Before you start feeling overwhelmed about what to do or start Google scrambling local vendors, make sure to hire a wedding planner first. This key investment can help your budget in the long-run. Especially if you want your wedding to take place in 2022.

A planner becomes your right-hand person by putting on various hats such as designer, legal counsel, budget manager, coordinator and so much more—all so you don’t have to. Planners are also bringing with them their priceless relationships with vendors. Some vendors and venues don’t even deal with you unless you have a hired wedding planner. In order to ensure that you have the best team of experts bringing your wedding vision to life, having an advocate on your side is an invaluable asset.

Of course, this comes with the underlying condition that your wedding planner is the right one. Have a list of questions ready to go during your first meeting. Some of our favorites include:

  1. What are the services you provide and how does that service fit in with my wedding planning needs?

  2. What are your hours of service on the day of the wedding?

  3. Who is my main point of contact?

In all of my 10+ years in the industry, I've never spoken with a couple who regretted hiring a wedding planner, but I have heard from several who wish that they had hired one! Everyone deserves to have a low-stress and enjoyable wedding. And all myths aside, it can really be fun being a bride… when you have a team dedicated to capturing your vision while keeping you on budget!
