A Wedding Infusing Two Cultures

April 10, 2023 Christine S. Chang

Last fall we had a couple who wanted to infuse both their cultures into their wedding and the results were amazing!

THE COUPLE:
Vy + Stephan

THE VENUE:
Bonaventure Hotel

For Vy and Stephan, they chose to incorporate the color green (representative of nature) with bright rust as a hightlight piece. The rust is a very important color in both Vietnamese and Canadian culture so it was the perfect accent to their wedding.

Decorated to show a high class European vintage vibe, we used greenery that the couple loves and pears into the design aspect of the wedding to show the brides love for bosc pears as well!

We worked together with the bride and groom to design their dream backdrop and escort board to match their overall theme and bring it to life.

Every detail focused on fusing together both cutlures. For the signage, the couple used a wax seal with a canadian maple flag and dried pears. Even the cake was a modern design but with Asian flavors. And we cant leave out the traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony.

Overall this multicultural couple wanted to show their love by infusing both cultures and in the end it was a huge success, showing how harmonious two cultures coming together can be.

Christine focused on promoting Asian American awareness over 3 days at SXSW, working with several influential people and major companies to make it all come together.

DAY 1: META PROSPER (formly.. Facebook)

Meta Prosper (along with Panda Express and Simple Human) was one of the major sponsors for day 1 as they supported their own Asian American group of the Meta offices.

Majority of day 1 highlighted 2 Asian Founded companies, Always Be Creating, and Asian Creator House.

‘Always Be Creating’ is a community of Asian American content creators and ‘Asian Creator House’ is a collective of people of Asian American creators (free group). Together we held an educational content summit during day 1 of SXSW.

For day 2, we knew we wanted an Asian Woman chef to celebrate woman’s history month, so we invited famous Filipino chef Melissa Miranda (owner of Musang in Seattle) to show us a bit of her culinary fine art. Chef Miranda is an strong supporter of sustainability and has been changing the narratives of people in the restaurant industry. As a Filipino cuisine chef, she is known to be one of the first people to provide full benefits for her restauarant staff.

escort boards vs seating charts. Whats the difference?

March 27, 2023 Christine S. Chang

When you’re having a wedding, theres almost always going to be at least one guest asking you where they need to sit. Using an escort board or a seating chart will help your guests find their seats on their own so you can enjoy your day! Its up to you to decide which one is best for your wedding.

SEATING CHART

This is one of the easiest options for the bride and groom. Usually a seating chart will have your guests names listed under a table number. To make it easier for guests to find their names, you can their names listed alphabetically under each table number (we recommend by last name so guests will be able to find their seats more quickly).

Seating charts take up less space and can easily be created on a nice mirror, frame or just a simple board.

If you have a large party, this is the best option as it saves you time and money for setting each guests card up to find. The only bad thing might be the large crowd that gathers in front of the seating chart to find their names.

ESCORT CARDS

Escort cards have each individual guests’ name and table numbers written on them.

Escort cards are usually easier to read and guest can grab their cards and go instead of crowding the area. But the cards will need to be set up the day of the wedding in big enough space to display all the cards to guest to find.

While making escort cards may cost more and take more time, its a great way for couples to show their creativity and have more fun expressing their style. Depending on how creative you get with it, the escort cards can also double as party favors as well.

If you cant choose between having a seating chart or using escort cards, you can have a mix of both! Use a simple seating chart to tell each guests which table they will be sitting at and have each escort cards at each seat of the table for guest to find as well.
