Surprise Proposal at Catalina Island, California

We recently got to help plan a surprise proposal at Catalina Islands, California. It had to have been the most beautiful scene we’ve seen in awhile.

We wanted to raise a glass to all the brave men that planed and proposed to their loves during these uncertain times. It brings us so much joy to see that love did not and was never on pause throughout the pandemic. Although, weddings and events could not take place for the last year and half, we are seeing that couples are not letting that stop them. They are pushing forward and finding unique ways to celebrate and we are here for it!

Planning a surprise proposal sounds easy enough but that statement is so far from the truth. The groom had a grand vision in mind and thought he could plan it all out himself. Then came 5 days before D-day and he realized there was no way he can have a successful surprise proposal without the help. That’s where we gladly stepped in! We got all things organized and booked within 2 days to make our way out to Catalina Island for the proposal!

The beautiful island of Catalina Island does NOT have a florist. So imagine our surprise when we came across this news. The best and only way to execute the groom’s vision was to bring a florist with us from Los Angeles. And so our favorite florist (that we have on speed dial) happened to be available and went out of her way to make one mans dream a reality. We packed our bags and 10 boxes of florals and supplies to the Long Beach Port where we had to board an hour ferry to arrive to the island. Boarding the ferry with 10 boxes of flowers was not an easy task. We had to jump through hoops to get special permission and also had to had carry all boxes onto the ferry. They don’t allow carts! (We got a good workout out of it!) However, that was the easy part of the journey! We now had to keep these flowers alive overnight. So where did they sleep? In the bathtub of course.

The next morning, we pulled stunts to set up the whole thing while the couple were away for brunch with their friends. Two hours to set up was a rush! As soon as we saw them go out the door to go dine, we ran inside to get the party started!

The set up was going to be right outside the couples penthouse room in the balcony that overlooked the water and mountains. It had a European vibe that we haven’t seen in California! It was spectacular to say the least! However, our favorite view was from the opposite side of the door when the bride walked in to find the walkway to the rest of her life.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple! We can’t wait to see the rest of your love journey.

Expert: 2022 Could Be the ‘Biggest Year in the Wedding Industry’

2022 is expected to have the most weddings in history since 1984. How is covid-19 affecting wedding prep? A condensed answer is to be extra prepared, watch the news, and keep interactive communication with vendors, guests and hopefully, a planner.

Plan Ahead… Way ahead

The most difficult part about weddings now may be finding the right vendors and venues. Vendor and venue availability has changed immensely with fluctuating demand. Some have decreased working hours to very specific times that everyone is basically fighting over now.

Be flexible

Everything is up in the air, especially when you’re planning so far ahead. The guest list of 100 may turn into 200 or 50 when the date nears. It’s important to consider that when booking your venue. The best case scenario would be to find a venue that can do both or accommodate both indoors and outdoors. The unpredictable times also call for having a solid backup plan that you can switch to at a moment’s notice.

Budget for health

Covid showed us how quickly (or slowly) lawmakers change their minds about mandates and guidelines. Pencil in some room for extra costs such as possible testing kits, masks, sanitizer, & other prevention gear.

No matter where you are in your planning timeline, remember that the goal is to celebrate your love story with loved ones. Don’t let a pandemic get in the way of your special day, but also have your plans in place to mitigate any unexpected curveballs!
