Surprise High School Graduation Party

Going to high school is hard by itself, but finishing senior year during a pandemic has to take the cake for a lackluster climax to suffering for four years. This amazing mother wanted to plan her daughter and best friend a surprise high school graduation party since they weren’t able to have a proper prom or graduation ceremony.

Nothing gets adolescents going more than a sugar high, am I right? Mama bear and I prepared a gourmet dessert feast for our young graduates featuring a cake/dessert buffet, boba bar, Afters ice cream along with Korean-Chinese fusion food.

Luckily, our young friends loved their pseudo-graduation party and were able to take fun pictures and end their high school careers with a bang after all!

Los Angeles Last-Minute Backyard Wedding

We got to celebrate Caroline + Gene for their Los Angeles Backyard wedding earlier this year which turned out to be one of my favorite highlights of this year. Churning out a last-minute wedding on very short notice (30 days) entailed transforming a casual luncheon and Zoom officiation into an actual wedding!

When Caroline, my good friend of mine from college, told me that she wasn’t going to plan a formal wedding, I cajoled her into letting me help in hopes of preventing her from making one of the biggest mistakes of her life. Only slightly joking.

She eventually gave in which left me with planning most of everything from A to Z. Luckily, many of the vendors I work with continuously were able to accommodate. This gorgeous piece of art was created by Cakery Bakery in La Cañada Flintridge.

Most of the decorations were handmade by me, and I definitely went above and beyond from pressing and drying flowers to cutting out custom labels to sew into the tablecloth.

Planning an event last-minute didn’t equate to skimping on the details either. Everything from the elegant color palette for the bouquet and flat lays was carefully considered to ensure a beautiful occasion for every guest. These custom made seat tags say “My Love” and “Forever” in Korean.

What was originally supposed to be a flat Zoom officiation turned into a gorgeous ceremony. My friend also came around and appreciated the fruits of my effort after she saw the resulting masterpiece.

General consensus for planning a wedding in 30 days or less is that it is going to be an incredibly stressful feat. But I see the beauty of a short engagement and an expedited planning period. Having sufficient time plays an important role in making the best decisions, but sometimes it just prolongs the nuisance of adjusting and re-adjusting.

Planning a wedding in a short amount of time may be the best situation to reach out for help. Divide and conquer with your wedding planner to make sure your wedding comes together seamlessly.
