Korean First Birthday For Baby Girl in Los Angeles
We got to celebrate Brie’s dol, or Korean first birthday for a baby, in Los Angeles. Koreans go all out for the first birthday of a baby, called dol in Korean, by hosting festivities rivaling weddings. Back in the old days when infants commonly did not make it through the first year, Korean people would hold a grand celebration with everyone in the village to mark the precious milestone.
Birthday Girl:
Brie
Brie’s dol was celebrated at Cucina Enoteca, Newport Beach with all of her aunties and uncles. The beautiful florals were done by B.Ju Floral.
Nowadays, parents prepare a feast with many traditional foods which often includes seaweed soup and multi-colored rice cakes along with other goodies to share with their friends and family.
Brie is looking adorable in a traditional-style clothing called hanbok which is the ceremonial attire Koreans wear on special occasions to this day.
The highlight of the dol is the doljabi where the parents place several items such as a calculator or microphone on a table for the baby to pick up. The first item the baby picks is said to predict the child’s future!
Happy birthday, Brie! To several decades more of health and prosperity along with a bright future!
